Lancaster Chiropractor : Dr. Jerrold Simon

Like many of my own patients, I had very little understanding of chiropractic until I was first treated at age 27 by a chiropractic doctor for lower back pain.
The successful alleviation of my back disorder convinced me of the effectiveness of chiropractic care. My brother Nick, a nuclear engineer who is now retired from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA, had the same success in relieving his back problems with the help of a chiropractic physician.
After seeing how chiropractic care alleviated my own lower back disorder and after learning how chiropractic was positively affecting the health status of many of my friends, I began to realize that becoming a chiropractic physician was truly what I was meant to be. Although I was a high school mathematics teacher for three years already, at age 27 I changed careers and began the five year chiropractic professional school curriculum at National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) which lead to my graduating as "outstanding senior" of my class.
So, at age 27, I enrolled at the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois and found the coursework both challenging and very rewarding. I was especially inspired by the (then) college president, Dr. Joseph Janse, who spoke eloquently of the rewards of a chiropractic career and the joys of helping patients achieve their health objectives. After five years of professional studies I subsequently graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a D.C. in Chiropractic.
The following is my educational and biographical brief:
Dr. Jerrold J. Simon was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio, graduated Southview High School in Lorain and received his B.A. degree in Music Theory from the University of California Santa Barbara having composed and performed his "Bicentennial Violin Sonata" in 1975. He received his second B.A. Degree in Math Education from the University of Akron in 1977 and subsequently pursued a teaching career in math, one year at Lehman Junior High in Canton, Ohio and two years at Walsh Jesuit High School in Stow, Ohio.
Dr. Simon earned a B.S. degree in Human Biology in 1982 and a D.C. (doctor of chiropractic) degree in April 1984 from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois whereupon he purchased the Lancaster Chiropractic Clinic in Lancaster, Ohio.
He is licensed to practice chiropractic in the states of Ohio, Illinois and Florida. For a period of five years during the first half of the nineties Dr. Simon also owned and operated a second clinic in Columbus, Ohio named the Amerihealth Chiropractic Center, Inc.

During the past twenty years, he has held several offices in the American Chiropractic Association. He is Past President of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) Council on Nutrition, Past President of the American Board of Chiropractic Specialties (ABCS) which is the Board that oversees all the specialty boards of the ACA, and the Vice President of the ACA Council on Rehabilitation. He is also the Past Chairman of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) Council on Electrodiagnosis and Past Vice President of the National University of Health Sciences Alumni Association. Dr. Simon also serves as Vice President of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) and past OSCA District 9 Director.

The honor of Fellow of the American Chiropractic College of Nutrition was granted Dr. Simon in 1999, fellow of the American college of Chiropractic Rehabilitation Science in 2000, and fellow of the International College of Chiropractors in 2001. He was named "Rehab Chiropractor of the Year" in 2005 of the American Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Simon has written a newspaper column for over twenty newspapers during the past decade, has published numerous scientific articles including co-writing a text-book chapter on clinical nutrition (Churchill Livingstone) and has hosted "Amerihealth Talk," a cable TV program, which has produced over 100 episodes. Dr. Simon lectures to chiropractic audiences nationally on a variety of topics.
My overall philosophy in my practice can be summarized by our office Mission Statement which is:
"Provide our patients with quality, conservative, and cost effective health care and to treat each patient and their concerns with the same respect, kindness, and attention as we would desire for ourselves."
I am married with two grown children, both of whom are also married. My wife Annette is well known throughout central Ohio for her landscape, figure and still life paintings which are done in oil, water color and acrylic and are exhibited in many of Ohio's finest art galleries. Some of her works can be viewed on her website Annette Simon Art. My son Jerry has his master's degree in Avionics Engineering and works as a civilian electrical engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. My daughter Sarah lives in Minot, ND with her husband Eric who is a staff sergeant in the Air Force. My hobbies revolve around travelling around North America and Europe with my family. I particularly enjoy visiting our National Parks right here in the United States.
Personally I believe in the age old adage, "Physician, Heal Thyself." Keeping that philosophy in mind, I strive to maintain my own ideal body weight by working out regularly, taking frequent walks, limiting my intake of sugars, alcohol and saturated fats as well as keeping my mind focused on staying up to date with the latest in the chiropractic and medical sciences. I have four post graduate Diplomat Certifications (Nutrition, Rehabilitation, Disability Analysis and Electrodiagnosis) and am currently working on my fifth in Neurology. I also enjoy lecturing nationwide on the topics of Rehabilitation, Nutrition and EMG which affords me the opportunity to meet with many other physicians as well as learn from some of the disorders that they encounter.
